Welcome to Plein Air Poetry!

We’re so happy to “meet” you!

I’m Alex— Alexandra McIntosh if you’re feeling fancy. :) I do most of the writing around here, which is fitting because I’m a writer! My book of poems, Bowlfuls of Blue, is available from Assure Press, and I’ve got a memoir about my family’s history along to Ohio River that I’m working on getting published. I’m also currently working on a novel about an art model who gets tangled up in a small town murder case! Exciting stuff! :)

Brad Davis is an internationally recognized oil painter—and my husband! We’ll be sharing my writing along with photos and videos of his work, especially his plein air paintings, which I (Alex) usually tag along for. I love writing outside while he’s painting— that’s sort of our whole thing. :) The Impressionists coined the term “en plein air” (French for “in the open air”) and we are inspired by their vision. We’re excited to share plein air ponderings along with paintings!

Brad’s also currently working on studio paintings for a summer show at Abend Gallery in Denver, so we’ll probably be talking about that as well. Brad also plans to upload some painting demos with lots of info about the “nuts and bolts” of his process. Let us know if this is something you’d like!
